Create an Employer User Account, Join Your Company, and Connect with Schools

For Employers Partnering with the UTSA Career Center

Welcome to Handshake! We’re excited to help you get started connecting with UTSA students and alumni. Below is a step-by-step guide to setting up your employer account, joining your company, and linking to UTSA.

Best Practices

  • Use your company-issued email—This helps ensure your account connects to the correct organization and speeds up validation.
  • If you don’t have a business email or use a generic domain (e.g. Gmail), follow Handshake’s guidance for registering with a generic email.

Step 1: Sign Up for Your Employer Account

  1. Visit Handshake.
  2. Enter your first name, last name, work email, and create a password. Password requirements:
    • At least 8 characters
    • Contains two of the following: letters, numbers, or special characters
  3. Review the Terms of Service and Privacy Policy, then click Create account (clicking implies consent) .
  4. Check your email and click the Confirm Email link within 12 hours to verify your account.

Step 2: Complete Your Profile

Once you’ve confirmed your email, Handshake will guide you to fill out your user profile:

  • Optional profile photo
  • Types of candidates you're seeking
  • Phone number
  • Education history (optional)
  • Third-party recruiter status (if applicable—must adhere to specific policies)
After completing these details, click Continue.

Step 3: Join or Create Your Company

You’ll then connect to your company:

  • If your company appears in the search results, select it and click Request to join.
  • If it’s not listed, choose Create a new company, then follow the prompts to set it up.
Requests may require approval, unless your company auto-approves new members.

Step 4: Connect with Schools

Once your user and company profiles are set up, you can link with schools:

  • You can either go ahead and post a job, selecting UTSA as one of your target schools, or
  • Request to connect with UTSA (and other schools) directly from the platform
